Les Cousins Dangereux – No Sprinkles

Lakewood, Ohio is to Cleveland as Berkeley is to the Bay Area. Among the vegetarians, hipsters, and zine printers lives Tim Thornton, known to us as Les Cousins Dangereux. Also a drummer for twee indie popists The Muttering Retreats, here on his debut album All Sprinkles, he coaxes old korgs and other synths into various sporting formations. He flirts with various styles, many of which are homages—the fuzz and burble of “Walter & Wendy (Casio Mix),” the Eno & Fripp referencing “An Array Of Oils (Silly Lists Edit),” and the spazzy Warp Records quirks of “They Taped Over Your Mouth.” For all its mimicry of a smoother electrohouse sound, “No Sprinkles” (shared here) can’t help but portray the delightfully nerdy tinkerer’s enthusiasm of its maker.
