Used to be that I was skeptical of anything related to the Anticon label—not to mention anything in the Sufjan Stevens sphere—but hey maybe it’s celeb week on Relics. And Sufjie has gone and collaborated with Serengeti and Son Lux. Their new triple-sibilant band name isn’t entirely accurate; they’re neither slippery nor slithery. But there’s a parodic funk to the four tracks on Beak & Claw that is kind of amusing. “Octomom” in particular has the loopy bitterness of early Mike Ladd.
