Fort Romeau – Some of Us Want for Nothing

In Melancholia, the end of the world is other people—spheres collide and you can’t be (by) yourself in the Venn overlap. Dance music’s felt that way for a while, judging from the brooding convergence of house, techno, and the bass music spectrum in the last few years. With his debut album Kingdoms just out, Fort Romeau’s Mike Norris gathers more twigs to build the bridge. It’s not easy to blend the punctuation of dubstep with the surge and pull of progressive house, but it sounds smooth enough here, if a bit too crystallized already. Now that we’re halfway across the chasm, it’s time to turn out the light for some chaotic shadowplay.
