Rarely do you find better accompaniment for journeys than electronic music. Disparition’s Jon Bernstein recently released his fifth album, Neukrk, and it serves best as a soundtrack for buses, trains, the subway—regular jaunts livened by music that matches the rocking rhythm of the car back and forth. It’s sequenced in classic sojourner format, with shorter sketches glued together by longer digressions, from billowing Radio Amor-era Hecker fog to nocturnal beat-heavy instrumentals that reveal an affection for the trip-hop era. “Ratchathewi” churns in with spiraling synth that wouldn’t sound out of place on the recent Tron 2 score; the film industry’s that much poorer without this material shadowing its every move.
