Burial – Loner

Echoing last year, Burial has released another single early, setting his stamp as 2012 gets into swing. At roughly half an hour, with two tracks more than 11 minutes in length, this feels like a mini-album. He’s flexing his hallmark twist on common effects: phantom samples; an insistent subliminal rhythm; gently abraded, scratchy textures. But his sound is drifting in new directions, as with “Loner,” which in gear with a lot of new post-dubstep bass music has touched back down on a traditional house rhythm. Even more compelling are the many sections of “Ashtray Wasp,” but you’ll have to grab the single for that. Great piece from the Quietus on this single here.
