Somewhere in the dusty storage room of an Epcot pavilion, an earnest old TRS-80 plugs away long after it has been forgotten. Inside stirs the condensed essence of technological augury, an analog bubble bath out of which the occasional mote of imagination escapes to inspire the legions of synthesizer prophets. All of which is to say that Tycho comes from the same warm place as Boards of Canada and Com Truise. But Scott Hansen’s skill at crafting smooth virtual utopias is matched by his graphic design savvy. At his shows, and on his blog (iso50), you’ll see a proud throwback style that isn’t limited by its fondness for the past. This is a teaser from his newest album, Dive, which is out in November.
