Riding the wave in reverse for this one. Recently found the sole album from these guys, 2008′s Coastlines. I love tracing the genealogy of this sound, and I refuse to acknowledge the usual criticisms—as if lazy, breezy instrumentals are somehow a bad thing, as if derivation is wrong when the list of influences is just right. Moonlight Surf is as perfect a statement of intent as La Femme D’Argent on Air’s Moon Safari; it cruises in with a ramshackle drum shuffle, drifts through a high tide of glistening guitar and winks out after a sprawling nine minutes of motorik groove crashing up against synth-rock lite.
